Advantages and Disadvantages of Laser Cutting

Dealing with bulk production is not as simple as it seems. Choosing material, machinery, and labor training requires lots of time and cost. All these factors have to be considered for large-scale business. Just one mistake in the selection of a machine can cause a loss of millions of dollars. Yes, it can be that much more expensive if you fail to select a cost-efficient machine. Likewise, you will have to know a lot before selecting an inexpensive laser cutter. In this way, you will find low-cost operations as well as higher outcomes.

What is laser cutting?

If you don't know yet, you don't need to worry at all. It is a contactless cutting method where a laser beam is used instead of metal blades. The benefit of this machine is that you don't have to make any replacements, unlike with the blade method. This smooth and contactless cutting process makes your production ultra-fast. You can find a wide range of applications, from small components to large sheets.

Advantages of Laser Cutting

There is definitely a reason, or more than that, for manufacturers in different industries to prefer it. It is about speed, precision, automation, and material versatility. This machine offers all these advantages, resulting in a company's high revenue.

High-Speed Cutting and Engraving

Their signature feature is high-speed cutting, which is accompanied by fast engraving. Users worldwide prefer laser-cutting machines for repetitive tasks, especially in bulk production. Whether a business is small or large, you can trust them for fast results. You need to just give them instructions to cut the way you want, and the results will be as per your objectives. Also, some users use these machines for engraving purposes, which is also a huge market. There are many wooden and metal products for which name, logo, image, and character engraving are demanded. You can rely on these machines for quick and clear engraving.

Consistent Performance

A laser cutter CNC machine is famous for consistency, which makes it a prime choice for mega orders. Manufacturers in the metal and wooden goods industry use these machines to perform repetitive tasks. The consistency level is high, which leads to high customer satisfaction. With the help of this machine, thousands of pieces can be cut into exactly the same size and design. The performance level is high and consistent to reduce the risk of error. You can commit your customers to the quality and consistency of your goods.

Balanced and Precise Results

You will not be disappointed using a laser cutting machine when it comes to precision. These machines are known for their sharp cutting functions for the most accurate results. Laser cutting precision eliminates every chance of error by providing balanced and precise cutting. This machine can cut wood, metal, and acrylic sheets for impressive results. From a keychain tag to a large metal sheet, many goods can get desired shapes with the help of them. Hundreds and even thousands of pieces can get balanced shapes for the highest fulfillment of demands.

Material Versatility

Different materials can get the desired cutting through a laser cutting system. Wood, metal, acrylic, leather, cardboard, and paper are some of the most common materials you can work on. The laser will not cause any damage to them; it will only be precise cutting. This versatility makes these machines suitable for many businesses. Leather goods, packaging cardboard, acrylic sheets, decoration items, and metal sheet parts are among them. People in the manufacturing business can use laser cutters for such reasons.

Automatic Operations

Since advanced machines, such as CNC type, were introduced, many operations have become automatic. It led to faster and low-cost operations. Although the initial laser cutter cost is high, the operational cost is low in bulk production. This machine helps users obtain lean production when it comes to large-scale production. Since there are different types of laser-cutting machines, their cost also varies accordingly. Some use LEDs, and some use chemical gas to generate laser beams. In terms of operational costs, just a single machine can reduce labor costs at a high rate.

Disadvantages of Laser Cutting

Where you find advantages, there are also some limitations. Using an industrial laser cutter can help you realize these limitations, but they are few.

Release Toxic Fumes

Since chemical gases are used as input in CNC laser cutting machines, you will experience the release of toxic fumes. These fumes are harmful to humans as well as animals. A proper ventilation system is mandatory when using this machine. The fumes must be released out of the working area to prevent the concentration of any harmful gases.

Limited Thickness Level of Workpiece

The cutting function has some limitations, which are about the thickness level of a workpiece. These machines are good for thin sheets where the laser penetrates easily. The power and cutting limit depends on the type of material. Some materials resist very little, and some more. Metals are the toughest, without any doubt. Usually, around 20 mm and 25 mm thickness are the maximum limits a laser cutter can penetrate.

High Initial Cost

The initial cost of laser-cutting technology is high. A large business will need to invest heavily in purchasing a single or multiple machines. In order to generate high revenues, one has to invest well in the machinery. It is a cost that you will have to bear.

Sometimes, They Leave Burn Marks

Some of these machines may leave burn marks on the workpiece. That is because of different reasons. It could be a poor adjustment of lenses or too much intensity of the laser. Then, you may experience burn marks on the workpiece, such as wood and acrylic.

Conclusion

Overall, these machines are way more advanced in dealing with industrial challenges. Within a short time, you can fulfill mega orders with a rapid cutting process using a laser cutter. Except for a few limitations, this machine is one of the best.
